Sacramento man learns his prison sentence after investigation into cocaine trafficking
A Sacramento man was sentenced to 57 months in prison on Thursday for possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, officials say.
Jason Tolbert, 45, of Sacramento, was in possession of more than a kilogram of cocaine and a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest in 2021, according to the Department of Justice.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration directed a multi-agency operation targeting cocaine and heroin traffickers in North Sacramento that led to the arrest of Tolbert and 14 others last year, a news release from the Office of the U.S. Attorney said.
A federal grand jury issued a 45-count indictment against the defendants in June 2021.
Tolbert was caught trafficking cocaine during wiretaps in 2018, according to prosecutors. He’s the first defendant of the 15 to be sentenced.
Prosecutors said the effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces operation, which “identifies, disrupts and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.”
