Sutter County woman arrested for manslaughter after fatal crash in Live Oak
A Sutter County woman involved in a September collision that killed a driver near Live Oak is now jailed in Yuba City on vehicular manslaughter charges in the fatal wreck.
Beatriz Curiel died in the Sept. 17 crash at Highway 99 and Ivy Street in Live Oak, Sutter County Sheriff’s officials said. Curiel was driving a Toyota sedan when her car was struck in the intersection by a Jeep driven by Esmeralda Perez, 25, of Yuba City. Perez was injured in the wreck and taken to a local hospital, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s investigators now say Perez was driving recklessly at more than twice the posted speed limit when she struck Curiel’s vehicle.
Deputies on Thursday arrested Perez, who is being held at Sutter County Jail in Yuba City in lieu of $100,000 bail. Perez awaits an Oct. 10 hearing in Sutter Superior Court.
