Sacramento judge sentences child molester to more than 400 years in prison

A convicted armed robber found guilty of sexually abusing multiple children has been sentenced by a Sacramento County judge to 390 years to life in prison, plus an additional 65 years in prison.

David Allen Thompson, 41, was convicted in 1996 of armed robbery, a prior strike offense, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. A jury in July found him guilty of lewd acts with a minor with force in a case involving multiple victims. He was sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Cheryl Chun Meegan.

In March 2007, Thompson sexually assaulted a female child. Despite his threats to kill the girl if she told anyone, the victim told a classmate about the abuse the following day. She also disclosed that she had witnessed Thompson sexually abusing other children under the age of 14 on several occasions, authorities said.

Soon after the allegations surfaced, both victims went to live with family out of state. Thompson traveled to one victim’s home, picked her up without the family’s knowledge and fled the state.

Thompson was stopped for speeding and taken into custody, but later escaped and remained free for almost a year before he was captured at a driver’s license checkpoint in 2008. At the time, he possessed false identification and provided the arresting officer with a false name.

The two victims testified during the trial. An additional witness testified that when he was abut 4 or 5 years old, Thompson took him into a chicken coop on more than one occasion and forcibly molested him.
