Woman faces manslaughter charge after alleged DUI crash kills driver near Yuba City
An Olivehurst woman has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and manslaughter following a weekend crash in Sutter County that killed another driver and seriously injured a passenger in her own vehicle.
A 2020 Honda pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Humphrey Road near Highway 20 around 1 a.m. Saturday failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and crashed into the driver’s side of a 2010 Dodge Charger heading east on the highway, the California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release.
The Dodge driver, a 35-year-old Yuba City woman, died at the scene, according to the CHP.
The Honda driver, identified as 24-year-old Serina Ali, and a 44-year-old woman riding in her vehicle were both taken to a hospital for treatment.
The passenger had major laceration injuries to her hand and leg as well as “possible broken ribs,” according to the CHP news release. Ali’s injuries were described as minor.
Ali showed signs of alcohol intoxication and was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, CHP officials said.
Upon release from the hospital, Ali was booked into Sacramento County Jail on charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
She was released the same day after posting $200,000 bail, jail records show.
