A man was attacked while visiting his deceased wife’s Northern California grave earlier this month, deputies said. The suspect allegedly assaulted two other victims and led deputies on a foot chase into highway traffic before being arrested.

The first victim, making a daily visit to his wife’s grave at the Auburn District Cemetery around 7:30 a.m. Oct. 11, noticed the sound of his vehicle being vandalized, then turned around to see a man standing next to his vandalized vehicle, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a Wednesday news release.

The suspect then “began attacking the victim, kicking him in the chest and punching him before stealing his cell phone,” sheriff’s officials wrote.

The suspect then allegedly walked into the office of the cemetery and threw the stolen phone at a second victim, cutting that victim’s face, then assaulted a third victim at a train station near the cemetery, according to the news release.

Deputies located the suspect and took him into custody following a foot pursuit that went into traffic on Highway 49, near Fulweiler Avenue, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Nathanial Lindstrom, 37, was arrested on charges of strong-arm robbery, vandalism, battery causing serious bodily injury, elder abuse, obstructing a peace officer and parole violation, Placer County jail logs show.

Lindstrom is ineligible for bail and is due in court Dec. 1.
