Man arrested, accused of stealing cats from Sacramento County home; 1 cat found dead
A Sacramento County man accused of stealing two cats from an Orangevale home — one of which was found dead while the other remains missing — was arrested this week following a more than monthlong investigation by law enforcement.
Colin Lendewig, 18, was arrested Tuesday and booked into jail on charges of animal cruelty and petty theft, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
A woman residing on Deanna Avenue in Orangevale first contacted sheriff’s deputies Sept. 7, saying she had recorded video evidence of an unknown person entering her property twice, according to the news release.
On the first occasion, the suspect was seen “harming one of the cats,” and on the second, he was spotted “stealing the other cat,” sheriff’s officials wrote.
“One of the cats never returned and the other was found deceased in a nearby yard.”
Lendewig was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Tuesday and released the same day, booking records show. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court on felony charges.
The Sheriff’s Office said no suspects are outstanding in the incident.
