Driver killed in south Sacramento shooting; gunfire came from another vehicle
A man was fatally wounded while driving his car Thursday in south Sacramento after he was struck by gunfire that came from another vehicle.
At 12:54 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office received a ShotSpotter alert indicating at least two gunshots had been fired in the 6400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, just south of 47th Avenue.
A few minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a passerby reporting there was someone in the area inside a crashed car who had been shot.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was sitting inside his car which had crashed into a fence, sheriff’s officials announced Friday in a news release.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies began performing life-saving measures on the victim while waiting for medics, who arrived shortly after. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died from his injuries several hours later.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his name after his family has been notified.
Detectives and crime scene investigators gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses at the scene. Sheriff’s officials said detectives have determined this was a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting. Investigators did not have any suspect descriptions or other information to release Friday.
