Man taken into custody following Sacramento County standoff involving sheriff’s SWAT team
A 37-year-old man barricaded himself inside a Carmichael home Tuesday after deputies tried to serve a search warrant has been arrested.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the man was detained following a nearly two-hour standoff in a cul-de-sac on Landis Avenue, east of Fair Oaks Boulevard. Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said a SWAT team was called to the scene after the person of interest refused to come out during an arrest warrant execution.
The man was identified by deputies as Kyle Richard Bimson.
According to Gandhi, deputies received a complaint last week from a family member about Bimson’s mental health. The Sheriff’s Office learned that Bimson may have committed assault with a deadly weapon and detectives had obtained a warrant for Bimson’s arrest.
The sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail served the warrant to Bimson, who Gandhi said was initially uncooperative. Because of Bimson’s suspect access to weapons, a SWAT detail was called in to assist in the standoff, Gandhi said.
Bimson eventually surrendered and was placed into custody. Jail records show he is suspected of five felony charges ranging from assault with a deadly weapon to vandalism. He remains in the Sacramento County Main Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and is expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
