Rancho Cordova police chase ends with crash on Highway 50 and the suspected driver hurt

Police tape at crime scene

An attempted traffic stop Thursday night in Rancho Cordova led to a chase that ended with a crash on Highway 50, one person injured and another sought by police.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. along the highway near Hazel Avenue, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said. The Sheriff’s Office is contracted to provide police services in Rancho Cordova.

Gandhi said Rancho Cordova officers tried to make a stop for a vehicle code violation, but the vehicle failed to pull over. The police pursuit ensued.

During the chase, the vehicle struck several other cars before the driver lost control and crashed, Gandhi said. The driver and passenger got out and tried to run away.

Gandhi said a man believed be the driver was struck by a vehicle, injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition. The person believed to be the passenger, possibly a female, got away.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon, Gandhi said, since investigators were still trying to confirm whether the man hospitalized was the driver. The Sheriff’s Office did not have an update on his condition.
