One killed, two wounded in shooting at North Highlands party

A house party in North Highlands turned deadly early Sunday when a young man was shot and killed. Two other people were wounded.

The killing occurred about 2:40 a.m. on Viola Drive, near Watt Avenue and Winona Way, north of Interstate 80. Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives, summoned by multiple emergency phone calls reporting that gunshots had been fired, found a man in his late 20s shot in the torso. He died at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

One of the wounded was shot in the leg, the other in the arm. Both are expected to survive, a Sheriff’s Department news release states.

Homicide detectives say the shooting occurred at a hosted party with at least 80 people attending. No motive for the killing has been established and no suspects have been identified.
