Update: Victim, suspect ID’d in deadly early-morning stabbing in Sacramento County

Homicide investigation

Detectives arrested a suspect accused of killing a man in a Thursday morning stabbing at a home in Sacramento County’s Vineyard neighborhood.

Christopher Funnie, 55, was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the death of 28-year-old Lamar Brown, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday afternoon in a news release.

The fatal stabbing was reported about 4 a.m. Thursday at the home in the 8000 block of Iron Gorge Drive, just south of Cobble Crest Drive, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies arrived, found Brown inside the home and determined he had no pulse. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies began administering first aid until medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived. The medics pronounced Brown dead at the scene.

At the same time, deputies located a vehicle that was reportedly spotted leaving the home. The deputies stopped the vehicle and detained two people inside, including Funnie.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, questioned witnesses and gathered evidence at the scene. Based on the evidence, the detectives arrested Funnie as the sole suspect in the stabbing. He remained in custody Friday at the Sacramento County Jail, where he was being held without bail.
