Children shot in separate shootings at Sacramento parks
Two unrelated shootings wounded children at Sacramento parks Monday night.
The first occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the Meadowview area at Phoenix Park Drive and Creeks Edge Way. Two adults and a 4-year-old child were at Phoenix Green Park participating in a family gathering where paintball guns were being used.
At some point a driver in a dark sedan fired shots from a handgun, striking all three in the lower parts of their bodies. They went to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Two hours later, across the city in Del Paso Heights, officers responded to a shooting at Mama Marks Park in the 1100 block of Roanoke Avenue. A 12-year-old girl and another person were sitting in a car at the park when an older model sedan drove up.
A person from the car approached the girl’s car and fired shots. The shooter then got back in his car and sped away.
The girl suffered a grazing gunshot wound to her upper body, according to Sacramento police.
No arrests have been made in either case.
