Explosion rocks home near South Lake Tahoe; firefighters ‘found debris everywhere’
Firefighters found a home engulfed in flames Thursday after an explosion rocked the two-story house in the South Lake Tahoe area and sent debris flying everywhere.
The explosion occurred at the home along Piute Street near Arrowhead Avenue in the small community of Meyers. Firefighters from the Lake Valley Fire Protection District received a report of the explosion and were the first to arrive at the scene.
The firefighters “found debris everywhere” and the house engulfed in flames, the Fire Protection District said in a Facebook post. The firefighters took a defensive stance to protect nearby homes and extinguish the blaze.
The Fire Protection District said putting out the fire might not have been possible without help from a ladder truck from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue. The agency, which called the incident a “significant firefight,” posted a photo on Instagram of a ladder hose dousing the flames from above.
Firefighters remained at the burned home overnight and others were expected to be there Friday. Officials asked residents to use caution if in the area.
The cause of the explosion remained under investigation, according to the Fire Protection District. There were no injuries reported.
