Coroner says man shot at North Highlands party was San Mateo resident

A man fatally shot early Sunday at a house party in North Highlands has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Rogelio Gastelum, 24, of San Mateo.

The shooting occurred about 2:40 a.m. on Viola Drive, near Watt Avenue and Winona Way, north of Interstate 80. Two other people were wounded.

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives responded to emergency phone calls reporting gunshots. They found Gastelum, who had been shot in the torso. He died at the scene.

Homicide detectives said the shooting occurred at a hosted party attended by at least 80 people. No motive or suspects were identified.

The two people who were wounded were expected to survive. One was shot in a leg and the other in an arm.
