Three people arrested after deadly shooting in Antelope, Sacramento sheriff says
Detectives arrested three suspects Tuesday in connection with a shooting that killed a man Monday evening in Antelope, Sacramento County sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies responded around 9 p.m. Monday to a report of a two-vehicle collision near Fawn Hollow and Firestone ways, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said. The 911 caller reported that the driver of one of the vehicles had been shot.
First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was identified Wednesday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Antonio Carlos Chacon, 20, of Antelope.
Based on the initial investigation, the shooting happened when a drug deal turned into a deadly robbery attempt, Gandhi said.
The victim and his girlfriend were attempting to meet the homicide suspect to purchase narcotics when the suspect instead shot him, according to Gandhi. The suspect allegedly shot the victim as he was driving away, causing him to crash his vehicle into a parked car several hundred feet away, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies on Tuesday arrested Randall Watanabe, 19 of Sacramento on suspicion of homicide, Gandhi said.
A 23-year-old woman and 18-year-old man, both Sacramento County residents, were also arrested. The woman was allegedly the driver and the man allegedly arranged the meeting, Gandhi said. Both were arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail late Tuesday on robbery and conspiracy charges.
All three are expected to appear in court Thursday.
