Elk Grove police seek to identify suspect in grocery store robbery

Elk Grove police are asking the public help in identifying a man suspected of a robbery at a Raley’s store Thursday afternoon.

The robbery occurred at the Raley’s at 4900 Elk Grove Blvd., in the store’s customer service area. Abut 4:07 p.m., a man approached the customer service counter and demanded money from the employees working behind the counter, according to a Police Department news release. Fearing for their safety, the employees complied, and the suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

The man, shown in surveillance photos, was described as 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a large build. He was wearing a black baseball cap, dark blue short-sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans and athletic shoes.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that the same man is suspected of committing similar robberies in Livermore, Lodi and Tracy in recent days.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Detective Bureau at 916-478-8060 or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357. Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Tips also can be sent via SMS text message by entering 275637 on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 and the message.
