Vehicle collision on I-5 sparks grass fire south of Elk Grove

Cosumnes Fire Department crews on Friday afternoon responded to a vehicle accident and a grass fire that started when one of the vehicles involved caught fire.

The department responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 at Lambert Road, south of Elk Grove. One vehicle was engulfed in flames and sparked a grass fire. Although no one was injured in the collision, the grass fire threatened a structure, cows and sheep in a field, fire officials reported.

The grass fire was reported contained about 3:56 p.m. at approximately 3 acres.
