A tip from a Auburn resident regarding a suspicious vehicle led to the arrest of two men, one of whom was a suspect in a recent burglary.

Officers responded to the report of two men seated in a gold Ford Ranger on Brook Street, near Shields Avenue, about 2:39 p.m. Thursday. They contacted the men, who were identified as Ian Thompson, 20, of Auburn and John Alexander Gibb, 20, of Applegate. One of the officers recognized Thompson as the suspect in a residential burglary that occurred Saturday in the 100 block of Channing Way, according to a Police Department news release.

In searching the vehicle, officers found stolen items as well as heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Thompson was arrested on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin. Gibb was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin and possession of heroin for sale. Both men were booked into Placer County Jail.
