A Sacramento man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old, authorities said.

Bobby Brewer Sr., 71, of Sacramento, was convicted by a jury on May 16 on 12 counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under 14. He was sentenced Friday by a judge.

At trial last month, a jury found that the victim was vulnerable and that Brewer took advantage of a position of trust, according to Sacramento courts.

The jury ruled that Brewer used “planning and sophistication” to carry out the crime, according to a news release from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Brewer allegedly took the 9-year-old victim to the movies and other outings. It was during these outings that the sex crimes would take place, according to prosecutors.
