Three killed in ‘head-on’ crash on Highway 65 in Placer County. One in critical condition

Roadway fatality

A man and two women died Sunday night after a major collision on Highway 65 in Placer County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was initiated when a woman driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Highway 65 crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason, CHP said in a news release.

The Camry collided “head-on” with a Kia Sorrento and Subaru Forester that were traveling southbound on the highway outside Sheridan near Riosa Road.

The woman in the Camry sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Forester later died from their injuries at a hospital. An additional passenger from the Forester was transported by air ambulance to Mercy San Juan Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Sorrento was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for moderate injuries.

“The crash investigation is ongoing,” CHP said.
