Cyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Railyards. Sacramento police investigating

Roadway fatality

Sacramento police are investigating a fatal hit and run Thursday morning that left a cyclist dead in the Railyards section of downtown.

The collision was reported at 5:37 a.m. on Railyards Boulevard between Bercut Drive and Fifth Street after a man on his bicycle was struck by an unknown vehicle, which left the scene.

Officers responded to the scene, as did firefighters who pronounced the man dead.

The stretch of roadway where the collision occurred is vacant land, having been cleared of the former rail depots that once populated the neighborhood. Video of the scene by Public Safety News showed a crumpled bike with its front wheel broken off in the bike lane of the eastbound lane.

The identity of the cyclist is expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once the family is notified.

After canvassing the area and reviewing evidence, detectives are looking for a dark-colored 2004-to-2008 Acura TL with damage to the front driver’s side, police said.
