Police tape at crime scene

A 13-year-old who allegedly stole a car then forced a pair of Elk Grove schools into lockdown Wednesday morning when the teen fled police is in juvenile custody facing felony charges.

The youth was booked into Sacramento County juvenile detention Wednesday on a slate of charges including felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest, Elk Grove police officials said.

Two others in the car were detained but not booked, said Elk Grove police spokesman Jason Jimenez.

Two Elk Grove schools, Joseph Kerr Middle School at the 8800 block of Elk Grove Blvd., at Elk Grove Florin Road, and Elk Grove Montessori School west of the Kerr campus on Williamson Drive, were locked down as a precaution, Elk Grove police said in a social media post just after 9 a.m.

Officers were called to the scene on Colton Avenue near the two campuses, prompting the brief lockdown, Jimenez said.

The lockdown lasted roughly five minutes while police chased down the teen.
