CHP looking for driver involved in deadly pedestrian hit-and-run on I-5 in Sacramento
The California Highway Patrol on Monday was looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday on Interstate 5 in Sacramento, near the American River Parkway area.
About 4:15 a.m., officers were called to northbound lanes of I-5, just south of Garden Highway, for a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian, the CHP North Sacramento office announced Monday afternoon in a Facebook post.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a woman on the freeway’s right shoulder. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Angelina Irene Parsons, 32, by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The CHP said investigators determined the pedestrian was trying to cross the freeway when she was struck by a vehicle in an exit-only lane of northbound I-5 to Garden Highway, the CHP said.
Investigators believe the vehicle that hit the pedestrian is possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, model year 2016 to 2018, or similar vehicle that would likely have front-end damage, the CHP said.
The CHP asked anyone who witnessed the fatal hit-and-run to call investigators at 916-861-1300 or 916-861-2300.
