Argument over soccer match leads to shooting at Rancho Murieta equestrian center

Police tape blocks entrance to a convenience store in San Luis Obispo County.

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that wounded two people early Thursday at an equestrian center in Rancho Murieta.

Deputies responded at 2:30 a.m. to the Murieta Equestrian Center on the 7200 block of Lone Pine Drive and Jackson Highway to reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

One person was taken to the hospital by helicopter; the second victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

The victims are in critical but stable condition, Gandhi said.

Deputies have not yet released a suspect description, but say the shooting stemmed from a disagreement between employees over a soccer match.

Gandhi said the suspect, who remains at large, allegedly left the equestrian center and returned with a gun, targeting the two victims.
