Pig euthanized after being shot with arrow. California deputies investigate animal cruelty
An arrow lodged in a domestic pig this week caused it extensive injuries as it evaded Northern California residents. It was caught a day later and ultimately euthanized, said authorities, who opened an animal cruelty investigation.
Nevada County deputies received several calls of an injured pig roaming in Alta Sierra on Monday, a social media post by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said. The pig, a stray, was shot in the hind leg with a bow and arrow, the post said.
The pig was captured Tuesday with a veterinarian and tranquilizers, the Sheriff’s Office said. It was found in the 15000 block of Gary Way in Grass Valley, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Quadros.
The pig was “ultimately humanely euthanized,” according to the social media post.
Deputies are investigating how the pig suffered the injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 530-265-1471.
