CHP looking for motorist accused of striking, killing pedestrian on Woodland freeway

The California Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who’s accused of fatally striking a pedestrian Tuesday morning on a Woodland freeway and fleeing the scene.

A motorist was traveling on Highway 113, south of the Main Street ramp, when the pedestrian was hit, a news release said. The pedestrian, whose gender and age have not been disclosed, died at the scene, CHP officials said.

A CHP spokesman said officers didn’t know where the pedestrian was when the incident happened. It’s also unclear if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash, the news release said.

Officer Rodney Fitzhugh, a spokesman for the CHP’s Woodland office, said investigators also don’t know exactly when the collision happened. The office was only alerted of the hit-and-run incident when a passerby called their office just after 5 a.m., Fitzhugh said.

Officers also don’t know the vehicle’s make or model.
