Three people were injured in a shooting, including one toddler, in the Valley Hi/Laguna neighborhood of south Sacramento early Monday.

Sacramento Police Department officers responded to Clover Hill Court, not far from Franklin Boulevard and Mack Rock, about 1 a.m. to reports of a shooting. According to police dispatchers, a 911 caller reported he had been shot in the face and shoulder while holding a 2-year-old. He also reported his girlfriend had been shot in the chest.

When police arrived, they found the two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, identified as a 38-year-old, had been shot three times, including two wounds to the face, and was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, south Sacramento. The woman, 34, and a 2-year-old girl, who suffered gunshot wounds to the back, were hospitalized at UC Davis Medical Center.

All three victims are in stable condition, said Sgt. Sabrina Briggs, a spokesperson for the department.

Officers located a suspect lying down under a tree at a nearby middle school; police did not say what motivated the shooting but said the man was known to the victims.

Police confirmed that officers had responded to calls for service at the Clover Hill Court residence multiple times before Monday’s incident.
