‘Improvised explosive device’ left in Colfax neighborhood, sheriff says. Watch it explode

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how a suspicious device filled with explosives was left in a rural neighborhood surrounded by trees.

Sheriff’s deputies went this week Robbers Ravine Road in Colfax after getting a call about a suspicious device left in a neighborhood, according to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies at the scene saw a pressure cooker-like object with wires coming out of it, and decided to call in an explosive ordinance disposal team to help investigate. There were some explosive material inside, said Sgt. David Smith, a spokesman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The explosives team rendered the “improvised explosive device” safe by using its equipment and collected the evidence, Smith said. There were no injuries.

It’s unclear who put the device there or why, and Smith said the investigation was ongoing.
