At-risk missing Placer County man found dead after California authorities activated Silver Alert
An at-risk elderly Placer County man who’s been missing for nearly a week has been found dead.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post Saturday that Timothy Massei, 67, who was last seen about 5 a.m. Sunday in Foresthill, “was found deceased.”
Authorities offered no additional information about Massei’s manner of death or where he was located. Deputies said he was discovered Saturday.
“Our condolences go out to the family for their loss,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
The California Highway Patrol had issued a Silver Alert on Wednesday at the request of Placer officials. After going missing three days before, his family had said he could be walking to Auburn, and he did not have his wallet or cellphone on him.
He was believed to be on foot and wearing denim Carhartt overalls, two light-colored jackets with a vest and a brown-colored beanie, CHP said. Temperatures in the area were as low as 28 degrees in the days since his disappearance.
There are various factors that a missing person must meet before CHP says it activates a Silver Alert. They include: an individual who has gone missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances; in danger because of age, health, mental or a physical disability; and law enforcement has used all its local resources.
