Martin Martinez, suspected in five murders and accused of a sixth, entered a not guilty plea in Stanislaus County Superior Court Thursday afternoon.
Stanislaus County prosecutors have filed murder and child abuse charges against Martinez, 30, suspected of killing the mother of his infant daughter, the daughter and four other family members.
Martinez is charged in the Oct. 2 death of 2-year-old Christopher Ripley, the son of his girlfriend.
Judge Ricardo Cordova set bail at $5 million. Martinez is scheduled to return to court July 29.

He also is the suspect in the weekend slayings of Dr. Amanda Crews, her two children, 6-year-old Elizabeth and 6-month-old Rachael, his mother, Anna Brown Romero, 57, and a 5-year-old girl, believed to be his niece. The bodies were found Saturday afternoon in a Nob Hill Court home in Village I, the middle-class subdivision in northeast Modesto. Charges have not been filed in these homicides, and detectives continue to work the case.
