Driver killed after vehicle flips, nearly splits pole in two-car collision, Sacramento police say
A two-vehicle collision Friday led to a driver being killed after his vehicle flipped onto its roof and crashed into a utility pole in Sacramento’s Ben Ali neighborhood.
Sacramento Police Department officers were told about 2:50 a.m. of the vehicle collision on Marconi Circle and Roseville Road. A vehicle crashed into a Sacramento Municipal Utility District pole, and it almost split in half, according to archived radio dispatch traffic reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.
The motorist, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Fire Department medics, police said.
The second vehicle involved stayed on scene and its driver didn’t suffer any injuries, said Officer Cody Tapley, a spokesman with the Police Department.
The collision was still under investigation, Tapley said. He declined to disclose what led to the collision.
SMUD said the pole wasn’t at risk of falling, radio dispatches said.
Tipsters are asked to call the dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
