Gun pulled on officer in Target after failed shoplifting attempt in West Sacramento, police say

A person accused of pulling a gun on a police officer after a failed shoplifting attempt at a Target was arrested last week, according to the West Sacramento Police Department.

Target security called the department after they noticed two people in the store taking items from shelves and trying to hide them, according to a social media post.

The department did not say when or where the incident occurred, but the major retail chain lists one store in the city: 2005 Town Center Plaza. It also did not provide the names and ages of the alleged shoplifters or what they were accused of stealing. A public information officer did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday morning.

When officers arrived, one of the suspects ran outside and tried to hide, but was later arrested, the department said. The other was inside a security room in the Target when an officer showed up.

The person resisted the officer’s attempt to handcuff him, the department said, and a scuffle ensued. During it, the person removed a loaded Glock handgun from his backpack, but dropped it in the struggle, according to the department.

A Target security guard, who was also in the room, kicked the gun away. The department said the officer was eventually able to handcuff the person.
