Suspect’s GPS monitor led Roseville police to arrest after retail theft of Spam, groceries
A suspect’s GPS ankle monitor helped Roseville police catch a man last week accused of stealing carts of Spam and other grocery items from Safeway with an alleged accomplice, authorities said.
Officers went March 21 to Safeway, 9045 Woodcreek Blvd., for reports of a theft. Two men are accused of wheeling away enough Spam, coffee, Dove soap bars and alcohol to fill multiple cars, the Roseville Police Department said previously.
Daniel Adams, 28, was arrested after a pursuit began and ended with him trying to run away in a residential area, police said. However, a passenger escaped from the vehicle.
Police caught up to the second suspect, a 29-year-old Stockton resident, on Thursday while tracking a GPS monitor on his anklet, police said Tuesday.
“With his ankle GPS SPAMMING his every move, he practically gave us a step-by-step guide to his thieving escapades,” police said on Facebook.
More than $9,000 worth of stolen items were recovered by officers, police said previously.
Adams, a south Sacramento County resident, pleaded not guilty in Placer Superior Court to organized retail theft, grand theft, receiving stolen property, evading police officers, obstructing or resisting police officers and being an unlicensed driver at his March 25 arraignment. He was no longer in jail custody as of Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Stockton man is scheduled to be arraigned April 15, according to court records. He faces charges of organized retail theft, grand theft, receiving stolen property and obstructing or resisting a peace officer, according to court records.
He was in custody Tuesday at the South Placer Jail and was being held with bail set at $92,500.
