The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is heading up a search for a missing Bay Area teacher in the backwoods of El Dorado County.
Edward Cavanaugh, 46, was last seen July 17 while riding his blue Yamaha YZ250 motorcycle in the Rock Creek trail system in the Georgetown area.
Cavanaugh parted ways with another rider with whom he had been riding, according to the sheriff’s office. Cavanaugh was going to use the trail system to return to a home he owns in the area.
The trail system is in the Georgetown Divide area between the communities of Mosquito and Garden Valley.

Search efforts began Friday with volunteers from El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Alpine and Stanislaus counties. Friends and family have also joined in the search for Cavanaugh, a teacher at San Francisco’s Downtown Continuation High School, according to television station NBC Bay Area.
His sister, Debbie Cavanaugh Schultz, posted her brother’s picture on her website and asked people to share it with others in hopes that he could be found. Postings note that Edward Cavanaugh is diabetic.
The Sheriff’s Office said he was last seen wearing Fox brand dirt bike riding clothing and a black helmet. If anyone has information regarding Cavanaugh, contact the sheriff’s dispatch at 530-621-6600.
