Police tape blocks entrance to a convenience store in San Luis Obispo County.

Police suspect a driver was under the influence after a pedestrian was struck and severely injured at an intersection Thursday morning on the city limit of northeast Sacramento.

According to the Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District logs, officers responded to the crash just after 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Auburn Boulevard and Watt Avenue, the city’s boundary with unincorporated Arden Arcade. At the scene, they found an individual in the roadway with “significant injuries.” The person was hospitalized and police said they were listed in critical condition.

Sacramento police spokesman Officer Anthony Gamble said the driver of the vehicle “displayed objective signs of intoxication and was arrested for felony DUI.”

The investigation shut down both roads for several hours, and police said the investigation of the crash was ongoing.
