CHP deactivates Ebony Alert after missing 12-year-old California girl located

Missing person found

An Ebony Alert for a 12-year-old girl missing since Tuesday has been deactivated, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“The subject has been located,” the CHP said in a social media post on Thursday night about Tiana Carter, offering no information on where, when and how she was located.

Carter was last seen about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near Harper Drive and Santa Margarita Road, a residential neighborhood in the city of Ventura. The CHP issued the alert for the missing girl on behalf of the Ventura Police Department.

Authorities believed Tiana was traveling in an unknown vehicle to the Sacramento area. The CHP issued the alert in Ventura, Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Sacramento counties.

A message sent to Ventura police officials asking for details about the case was not immediately returned early Friday.

Ebony Alerts are a notification system that went into effect this year in California, intended to provide information to the public about the “suspicious or unexplainable disappearance” of a Black youth between ages 12 and 25, according to the CHP.
