North Sacramento shooting victim ID’d. Police still looking for tips
Homicide detectives on Monday continued to investigate the death of a man who was killed in a shooting Friday evening in a North Sacramento neighborhood.
The shooting was reported about 5:45 p.m. Friday in the 2500 block of Altos Avenue in Old North Sacramento. Officers arrived and found a man with at least one gunshot wound, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release.
Medics from the Sacramento Fire Department provided medical aid at the scene before taking the wounded man to a hospital. He died later at the hospital.
Jonas Marice Calhoun, 30, of Sacramento was the man killed in Friday’s shooting, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, collecting evidence at the scene and canvassing the area for witnesses.
Police said the circumstances of what led up to the deadly shooting remained under investigation. The Police Department has not announced any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting or released any suspect description.
The large crime scene, cordoned off by yellow police tape, was focused on a narrow strip of park land that contains the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail between Altos and Traction avenues. It’s not clear whether the victim was using the bike trail when the shooting occurred.
