Detectives arrest man accused of stabbing 2 homeless men in Sacramento, killing one of them
Detectives arrested a man accused of stabbing two homeless men in the face in an attack early Sunday in Sacramento, killing one victim and wounding the other, sheriff’s officials said.
Kyrie Woods-Richardson, 27, was arrested on suspicion of homicide Thursday evening and booked at the Sacramento County Jail, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday in a news release.
Woods-Richardson remained in custody Friday morning was being held without bail. He’s scheduled to appear for his arraignment Monday morning in Sacramento Superior Court.
The stabbing was reported about 4 a.m. Sunday in the unincorporated area near El Camino and Howe avenues in Sacramento, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A homeless man in his 60s called 911 to report he’d been stabbed in the face.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies arrived at the scene and found the other stabbing victim, the homeless man in his 30s, who was unresponsive. The deputies began administering first aid and resuscitated him, before medics arrived and took both wounded men to a hospital.
Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, said the homeless man in his 30s who had been listed in critical condition died Tuesday morning at the hospital.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name and age after his family has been notified. As of Friday morning, the Coroner’s Office had not released the stabbing victim’s identity.
The homeless man in his 60s wounded in Sunday’s stabbing was expected to survive his injuries, sheriff’s officials said Friday.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives took over the investigation and identified Woods-Richardson as the stabbing suspect. Sheriff’s officials said the detectives learned Woods-Richardson stabbed both victims with a knife and fled the scene.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau found Woods-Richardson in Sacramento Thursday evening and took him into custody without further incident. Sheriff’s officials said Woods-Richardson had been recently released from prison and was on parole.
