Mira Loma High sophomore stabbed after altercation outside campus, school district says
A Mira Loma High School sophomore was stabbed Tuesday outside the campus during an altercation and is expected to live, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the San Juan Unified School District.
Deputies were alerted about 3:50 p.m. by a person who called dispatchers to say his friend had been stabbed in front of the school at 4000 Edison Ave., according to archived audio dispatch calls reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.
A 16-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after firefighters began to render medical aid, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Two suspects reportedly left the scene in a vehicle in an unknown direction, according to the archived audio. Gandhi just before 4:15 p.m. said a male suspect had been detained. The suspect, a juvenile, was later booked, Gandhi said.
It was unclear if the suspect was a student at the school.
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” said Raj Rai, a spokeswoman for the San Juan Unified School District. “Additional counseling and safety staff will be onsite tomorrow to help support our students and staff.”
