The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 32-year-old man following a standoff Monday in North Highlands after deputies say he was involved in a shooting.

The Sheriff’s Office said the standoff began around 11:45 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex on Galbrath Drive and Walerga Road in North Highlands and required a SWAT team and negotiators. The shooting had occurred earlier Sunday in Rancho Cordova after deputies responded to multiple reports of an incident at an apartment along Lincoln Village Drive.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi said that the suspect had been in a fight with an ex-girlfriend when the shooting happened but no one was injured in the incident.

Deputies tracked the suspect to the North Highlands apartment and deputies said the man had barricaded himself inside a home with two women and two children, all of whom were unharmed. After several hours, the man surrendered to authorities.
