Northern California authorities searching for escaped jail inmate considered ‘violent’
Northern California authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped Friday from jail and is considered “violent and dangerous,” authorities said.
Caleb Duerr, 39, fled Plumas County Jail about 8 a.m. wearing dark blue jail clothing. He was last seen around 9 a.m. walking south on County Road A23 from Highway 70 in Beckwourth, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office said.
“He has likely changed clothing at this point,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.
Duerr stands 6-foot-1 and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Deputies also said he was spotted near an O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Quincy.
Duerr escaped during a recreation period at the jail and “managed to breach the chain-link fence surrounding the recreational area,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday evening. Search efforts remained ongoing Friday night with deputies contacing the California Highway Patrol, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement for assistance.
It was not immediately clear what charges he faced or when he was booked into jail.
Residents are asked to call 911 if Duerr is spotted.
