Roadway fatality

A motorist killed in a head-on collision early Monday was the victim of a suspected DUI driver, Sacramento police said.

The fatal 12:45 a.m. wreck at Franklin Boulevard and Sunmeadow Drive in the Parkway neighborhood of south Sacramento brought officers to the scene. They found the driver of a sedan with critical injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento firefighters.

The name of the driver who died has not been released pending notification of family and was expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of a sport utility vehicle involved in the crash was also injured and was taken to a hospital. A spokesman for Sacramento police said the driver showed signs of intoxication at the scene and was being detained at the hospital.

Sacramento crime scene and major collision investigators were called to the scene to gather evidence in the deadly crash.
