Watch dramatic video of wind-fueled fire sweeping through Sacramento-area apartments

Dramatic video shows a wind-swept three-alarm fire raging through a North Highlands apartment complex late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.

More than 40 residents were displaced from their homes at the Estate Apartments. Three were sent to local hospitals.

North Highlands is a suburb of Sacramento, California.

The video, shot by Metro Fire of Sacramento and sent to the Sacramento Bee, shows fast-moving flames consuming and destroying the 32-unit apartment complex in the early morning hours. The fire broke out just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The fire intensity was incredible with the wind playing a major factor in the fire’s rapid spread,” Capt. Parker Wilbourn, a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman, said. “We’re fortunate there were no fatalities and no additional buildings damaged. This fire could’ve easily been much worse if not for the hard work of over 85 firefighters working to contain the blaze to the building of origin.”

The Bee’s Darrell Smith contributed.
