Rancho Cordova business owner shoots, kills would-be burglar, Sacramento deputies say
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed inside a Rancho Cordova business Sunday morning, though no arrests have been made.
The shooting happened on the 10000 block of Folsom Blvd. just after 1 a.m., said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi. Dispatch calls reviewed by The Sacramento Bee indicate the break-in occurred at a motorcycle shop.
Gandhi said a burglar allegedly broke into the shop and made their way through the building, which is shared with a small market and nail salon. Near the back of the property, the man tried to break into a living space where the business owner was staying.
The owner shot the alleged burglar, who turned and went back to the parking lot before collapsing, Gandhi said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity was expected to be announced by the Coroner’s Office.
Deputies say the investigation into the shooting remain ongoing.
