A 23-year-old Fair Oaks man died Thursday night from injuries suffered when the vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned northwest of Truckee.
Brayton Walters was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Meadow Lake Road south of Henness Pass Road by Truckee Fire Protection District personnel.
The driver, Jacob Young, 21, of Citrus Heights, walked about 3 miles to acquire a cellphone signal to report the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers arrived about 11:45 p.m. and administered medical aid to Walters, who remained in the passenger seat. Fire personnel also rendered aid, but the victim died from his injuries, authorities said.

Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the collision, which occurred after Young lost control of his Toyota pickup while headed east on Meadow Lake Road. Authorities said it was not immediately known what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The Toyota left the roadway and turned over once, landing on its wheels. Young, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. According to the report, Walters was not wearing a seat belt.
