Student attacked victim at Sacramento elementary school with kitchen knife, school says
A Sacramento elementary school student attacked another student Monday with a kitchen knife and stabbed a juvenile, according to the Sacramento City Unified School District.
The incident happened during Bret Harte Elementary School teacher Michael Rule’s class, who was teaching a fifth- and sixth-grade hybrid class, according to a letter sent by principal Roxanne Wolfe.
The student stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife in the shoulder and inflicted a “small puncture wound,” Wolfe wrote.
“This is both shocking and profoundly scary for our entire school community,” Wolfe wrote. “Our priority right now is to focus on the recovery of the injured student and provide emotional support for any students who witnessed the incident.”
Sacramento police officers were called just before noon to Bret Harte, on the 2700 block of 9th Avenue near Franklin Boulevard in Curtis Park, for reports of a stabbing, police said.
A juvenile suffered at least one stab wound and was taken to a hospital for injuries police spokeswoman Officer Allison Smith described as not life-threatening. Another student was accused of stabbing the victim, Smith said, but authorities were still investigating the incident.
“The student responsible will be referred for immediate and appropriate disciplinary action, in addition to other potential legal consequences,” Wolfe wrote.
The school, which is part of the Sacramento City Unified School District, was not locked down, Smith said.
Wolfe said parents can contact the school office students who need help processing this incident.
