A 21-year-old Sacramento man was arrested this week on suspicion of providing fentanyl to a teenager who died in 2021, Elk Grove police said.

Officers were summoned to help a 17-year-old boy who appeared to a overdosing in a restroom at Jones Family Park, the Elk Grove Police Department said Thursday in a news release. The boy was found not breathing about 8:40 p.m. April 22, 2021 and ultimately died, police said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Keanu Apodaca Young. He died from fentanyl intoxication, according to the coroner.

Investigators worked for nearly four years to identify the person who gave Apodaca Young the drugs, police said.

Detectives on Wednesday arrested Keon Taylor, 21, on suspicion of homicide and for transporting, selling or distributing drugs. Police said Taylor sold the victim pills on multiple occasions, including on the day the teenager died.

Taylor is being held without bail in the downtown Sacramento County Main Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, according to online Sacramento Superior Court records.
