Officers say a man tossed furniture from a downtown Sacramento hotel room window and then fell to the ground from the seventh floor.
Police were called to the Holiday Inn at 300 J St. at about 2 p.m. Monday because a man in his 30s was said to be displaying irrational behavior. Officers learned that he had broken a window in a hotel room and had thrown furniture onto the first-floor walkway.
Police negotiators were called to speak with the man, who had positioned himself on a railing outside the broken window. There, he teetered back and forth until eventually losing his grip and falling to a seventh-floor window railing outside a room, where he broke another window.
From there, he fell to a first-floor walkway. The man, who is likely to face vandalism charges, suffered serious injury but was expected to survive.
