Father with cocaine, gun and children in car arrested after Sacramento chase, deputies say
Deputies on Tuesday afternoon arrested a father after he led them in a vehicle pursuit along Highway 99 and into Sacramento before he crashed with cocaine, a stolen gun and his two small children in his car, sheriff’s officials said.
The 28-year-old man was arrested on felony charges, including child endangerment, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday morning in social media posts.
About 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, deputies spotted a dark-colored Dodge with no license plates heading north on Highway 99 near 47th Avenue in south Sacramento. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies tried to pull over the car, but the driver refused to stop.
The vehicle pursuit began on the highway and continued onto nearby surface streets. About two minutes into the vehicle chase, the fleeing Dodge crashed into another car near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 23rd Avenue in the South Oak Park area.
The Sheriff’s Office released photos and videos of the crash that show the Dodge crashing into a compact car before coming to a stop in a home’s front lawn.
Deputies quickly detained the driver without further incident. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies searched the Dodge and found the driver’s 2-year-old and 6-month-old children inside, along with a small plastic bag of cocaine and a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen.
Deputies handed over the driver’s children to their mother and booked him at the Sacramento County Jail. Sheriff’s officials said the driver was released from the jail early Wednesday after posting $75,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to appear Thursday for his arraignment in Sacramento Superior Court.
