According to a story in The Sacramento Bee at the time of the slaying, a Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman said detectives were puzzled by the events surrounding the death.
Lee’s body was found in bushes outside his residence at the Heather Ridge Apartments, 8721 Greenback Lane. He had been shot several times in the upper torso.
Lee was speaking on the phone with his sister at 11:30 p.m. March 26, when he was attacked. He sister heard a commotion, then the phone went dead.
After the call, Lee’s father and girlfriend went to Lee’s ground-floor apartment. They found the front door open and nobody inside, sheriff’s officials said. Searching around the landscaped yard, they discovered Lee’s body between two apartment buildings.
Sheriff’s officials said at the time that there was no obvious motive for the shooting, although robbery was a possibility.
